I knew that if I asked my dad before I bought it that he would probably say no so I bought it first and asked later. I carefully crammed the chair into the back of my car and went back to work. This is when I learned of the true magnitude of my purchase. After I loaded my car I looked for a makers tag or mark on the bottom of the chair and fount the tag that said "Thayer Coggin Inc." When I got to work I googled it to see what this thing was and I was truly blown away by what I found out. This Chair is really really expensive! I have found a similar ones for sale elsewhere ranging from $400 in poor condition all the way up to over $1500 for most expensive one. I'm not exactly sure what mine would be valued at but I would assume about halfway between those two prices. I couldn't believe it! I bought this chair for only $20 at a thrift store and it's in excellent condition? That is unheard of! When I saw my dad later that day we walked out to the parking lot so I could show him my purchase and I set the chair up in the middle of the parking lot so he could sit in it and see the hidden footrest. He was in awe that I found this chair for that cheap and says It's pretty cool chair and to be careful with it since the value will likely only increase. I definitely do not plan on selling this chair any time soon. I will be enjoying this chair for a long time. I'm still surprised at the fact that I found this thing. Unbelievable!!

Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin Lounge Chair
Ok so this post may ruin my thrift sale Friday for the week and I already had another personal item lined up for todays post, but I really just have to post this for my personal item Thursday. So yesterday, I walked into the Salvation army during my lunch break because it was fairly close to where I was getting lunch and sitting over near the furniture area was this yellowish high backed chair that screamed mid-century to me. It looked fabulous! I kept looking around to see if there was anything else in the store but there wasn't so I went to go sit in the chair and when I did I leaned back slightly and the chair moved and a footrest poped out from out of nowhere! It was at that moment that I knew I needed to have this chair. I had seen earlier that the price on the chair was $19.99 and I feared the worst because I believed that I only had $10 on me again. I cracked open my wallet and there was a $20 bill gleaming at me saying spend me Brian! so I picked that chair up and walked over to the register and bought it! Hit the break for the rest of the story and more pictures of this amazing chair!

Congrats! What a deal!!!
ReplyDeleteits a wonderful deal...may i say- Lucky you :)..i m sure you will enjoy the chair
ReplyDeleteI know! I was so excited to bring it home and clean it up and give it some further tests on comfort! It's such a sweet chair! I love this thing! I'm so lucky a had $20 on me and this was there waiting for a good home! :D
ReplyDeleteHey! It was made in High Point, NC... the furniture capital of the world.
ReplyDeleteI saw that! It made its way all the way over to Southern Illinois just so I could buy it! :D
ReplyDelete"I knew that if I asked my dad before I bought it that he would probably say no so I bought it first and asked later."
ReplyDeleteThe lesson here is - It is easier to ask, and potentially receive, forgiveness than permission! And man, what a sweet snatching! That one is in so much nicer shape than mine AND $5 cheaper! WAY....TO.....GO!
You've got it bad now...you are in so much trouble! I hope you've got lots of room for all the future finds.
Exactly! I figure It's best to get it first then figure out where I am going to put it later after I bring it home! This chair literally looks like it was only sat in a couple of times! The upholstery is in amazing shape as is the wood! There was quite a bit of dust on it when I brought it home but I vacuumed all of that off and It looked even better! I'm sure I will find some room for this stuff somewhere. I'll probably be moving out sometime in the not so distant future so I figure it's good to stock up now :P
ReplyDeleteI agree, what a sweet chair! I like it and can't wait to check it out. :-)
