Retro Burlap Dessert Cups

My dad bought these really cool looking retro burlap dessert cups a while back. I really like the colors adn I don't think he paid too much for them. I really like using these things and we have used them mostly for flan which is delicious by the way! These little Dessert cups are really cool! I believe they are made by Raffia-Ware but I'm not entirely sure. It doesn't say anything on them at all. Check out the other pictures after the jump!

Buffet Update (Still There)

No Café Press design today. I havn't had time to make a new design today. Too much schoolwork and regular work I had to do today. Anyways, continuing on.

So I stopped by the place a few days ago where I say that marvelous Mid Century Buffet that I posted about about a week or two ago and it was still there! Thanks to Mr. Modtomic for telling me what these things are called. The price is still at a firm $150 but I can't imagine why someone hasn't taken this thing home yet! It still looks fantastic if you ask me and I took a much closer look at it this time. This buffet is in phenomenal shape and I would really like to have this in my living room for my TV. I think that would be the perfect use for it. Then I could hide the cable box and other what not elsewhere. This thing is really cool looking and screams "Bring Me Home Brian!" every time I look at it. I wish I had a lot of money to buy awesome things like this. Here are some more pictures of it. Hit the jump to see them all!

Blog of the Day:

Welcome to Mid Century Modernist!  This place is great! There are so many things on this site that I have never seen before! Like this couch that I have posted below! How rad is that thing? I want one of those so bad now! That would be great for a small apartment! This blog is filled with all sorts of knowledge that I can learn from and sharpen my Mid Century identification skills. I've learned quite a bit from Mr. Modtomic and other blogs over the past few weeks and this website will definitely help boost my knowledge. You definitely need to go check this place out.

Lets Do the News!

Hello! I hope everyone's weekend was great! Mine was pretty good. I went to a bunch of places this weekend, but I didn't get very much stuff. I bought an old set of 10 full size Brunswick bowling pins for $1 so I may make some lamps out of them. That will give me a pretty good weekend project. I also saw some Ero Saarinen by Knoll chairs at a little shop around here but there was no price on them and I wasnt sure if they were really Knoll. I looked them up on the internet when I got home to see if I could find them. I knew they were Era Saarinen styled but I'm not positive if they are Knoll chairs. I will have to go back and see maybe later this week. I ask how much they want for them and if I can afford them. I hope they are really cheap! :D Hit the jump for another picture!

Here is a picture of the similar ones I found on eBay: you can find the ad here. The ones I saw had the same metal legs and were a deeper red. They were also a faux leather instead of this fabric.

The Ginger Shop (A new Antique Shop w/ Some Mid Century Stuff!)

Welcom to The Ginger Shop. It is located over in O'fallon Illinois and it's a pretty cool place! My girlfriend and I stumbled upon this little place on accident and boy was it a great place to just stumble upon! There were a lot of cool things in the place that I liked! unfortunately, I'm still a poor college student, so I couldn't afford to buy anything in there. The prices were pretty decent though. Nothing was too far out of reach for me and I definitely recommended visiting this place! You might find something awesome that I may have over looked! Hit the jump for more pictures!

$1 Box of Stuff

So I went to one of my local thrift stores yesterday afternoon and found this little box of goodies! It said one dollar on the box and so I decided to get it. What's one dollar right? Buried under what looked like years of caked on dirt that had plagued this box of melamine dinner-ware was a small stash of vintage Melmac and Mallo-Ware goodness! This stuff its really good quality and what I have read is that these were made around the 60's. This is some really sturdy stuff! I love it but unfortunately I may have to part with these wonderful items. In all there were 52 pieces in this box. The box included 2 plates and a Salem Biscayne pattern Saucer in the bottom. I threw the 2 plates away because they were really dirty and I couldn't get them clean. They only cost me 2¢ each so it wasn't any big loss. Anyways, here it what came in the box! Hit the jump for more pictures.

Thrift Store Friday! (Got Some Deals!)

Welcome to Thrift Store Friday where every week, I will bring to you all the things that I have found in my local thrift stores during the week! This week, I didn't buy much buy I did get some killer deals! That's what matters right? It's all about spending the least amount of money on those hidden vintage treasures! I love going to all the thrift stores to see what they have in stock! My lunch breaks have been mostly devoted to the thrift stores if I can squeeze them in. They are pretty addicting places. Anyways, here are the neat-o things that I found this week hittin' up the thrifts! Hit the Jump for more stuff!

I saw these earlier on in the week at the local Salvation Army. They immediately caught my eye and they were only $14 each! I thought what a deal! They looked a lot like my black Chromcraft chair! Unfortunately, these were extremely cheap chairs. I mean cheap as in not very well made. They were too light weight and the upholstery felt thin and fragile. It was a immediate pass for me. Had they been legit Chromcraft I definitely would have got them, but I just didn't need those cheap barstools so I left them for someone else to buy.

Retro Plastic Weave Cups (a.k.a. Burlap Pattern) + Holder

Today I brought out a set of eight retro yellow weave cups that my dad bought a while back at a yard sale for only $3. What a deal! These things are in great condition too. You just don't find cool things like this very often. These would be a great showpiece for a vintage kitchen and we used to have them sitting on the counter top until we ran out of room and had to stow them away. I pulled them out today because I thought it would be an interesting item to show you guys. I've only actually used these once for some milkshakes after my dad bought them but they have been residing in the cabinet for quite some time now. I needed to bring them out into the sunlight once again because they look so cool! The rack really makes them look even better! It's pretty awesome how sometimes you can find a complete set like this at a yard-sale for cheap! Hit the jump for the rest of the picture!

Café Press - Atomic

So for today's new Café Press design I went for a simple design. And what better simple design than an Atomic Symbol? I made this design bebcause I always liked the way the atom looks. This is an iconic symbol that has been duplicated and remade countless times throughout the years and now it has ended up in my hands. I put this thing on a wide assortment of things that you can find over here at my Café Press. Hit the jump to look at a couple other things I have to offer.

Here is an atomic mug that you can use for some delicious Atomic Coffee!

Around The Interwebs! (3/22/11)

Welcome to "Around the Interwebs!" Every Tuesday I will bring to you: one modern blog or website, one eBay ad and one Craigslist ad from all corners of the Internet. These are all things that I may find interesting or a good deal or just fun to look at but I hope you enjoy them too. First we will start with a blog of the day. Hit the jump for the eBay and Craigslist ads.

Blog of the Day

Welsome to Desire to Inspire. This blog is amazing! My sister (who currently lives over in Germany) pointed me to this fantastic blog. There is so much awesomeness bundled up in this blog! This blog has everything in it from modern day designs to all the retro era designs! I get all sorts of great ideas when  look at the things on this blog! I wish I could afford the wonderful things on this blog but all I can do is just look. I know you guys will love to look through this blog and they post new things every day! It's wonderful!!

Craigslist Ad of the Day

Here is a sweet Mid Century Floor lamp that I think looks pretty sweet. It's $80 and the guy says it's from the 60's. I would like to find one of these kinds of lamps some day I think they are pretty cool but even though $80 probably isn't too bad of a price, I can't afford it on my poor college student budget.

eBay Ad of the Day

Here is a pretty wild looking George Nelson Omni Cabinet. This thing is definitely sweet looking if you ask me. The only thing I don't like about it is those legs. If they were shorter and made out of wood, I would like it a lot better.  Other than that, I like the way it looks and would definitely like to have this sitting in my house. It's not too expensive considering the fact that newer furniture costs at least the same amount in some cases. This is a pretty sweet looking cabinet and I wish I could find one of these around here for really cheap!

Monday News Update! (Green Chair for Sale)

So the weekend was pretty good but I ended up not getting anything over the past few days. Hopefully I will find something awesome at the local thrift stores this week! wouldn't it be awesome to find another awesome Mid Century lounge chair like that Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin Lounger i bought last week! I can only hope right?

There weren't hardly any yard sales on Saturday which was a bit depressing. I saw one sign but I couldn't find the place. Oh well, hopefully there will be more next weekend and then I can buy some awesome vintage Items for cheap! This wasn't the best weekend for me but I did manage to visit some pretty cool places like that Thrifty Treasures place over in O'Fallon. That was probably the highlight of my weekend. The Belleville flea market wasn't the best on Saturday, but I did see some sweet stuff in the thrift stores surrounding Belleville so that day wasn't ruined. All in all, I just hope this next week will be better and I can find some more sweet deals!

Hit the Jump for more info on the chair!

Welcome to Thrifty Treasures. They are located here in O'fallon Illinois. This place Is awesome! there was so much cool stuff in here that I thought would be neat to have and it was all decently priced stuff! I didn't get anything in there this time, I was mostly just snooping around to see what they had since I had never been in there before. This place was loaded with some really cool vintage-y items. The people there seemed pretty nice too. I highly recommend this place. You will find all sorts of wonderful things in there and I will definitely be stopping back by again!

Belleville Flea-Market & Surrounding thrift Stores (Slim Pickins')

Today my girlfriend and I went to the Belleville Flea Market and while there were a lot of vendors there today there wasn't much that really caught my eye. I only took one picture there of something I liked but other than that I kept my camera in my pocket and ended up not getting anything there today. After the flea market, my girlfriend and I went to a couple thrift stores and a hole in the wall antique shop. All in all I didn't see too much today that I wanted to get but I took a few pictures.

Here is the only really noteworthy thing that I saw at the Belleville flea market. I saw this really cool vintage Propane stove made by Vesti and it was in really good condition! I would live to have this in a small apartment although I would definitely have it thoroughly checked over before testing it out. It was only $65 though! What a deal! I like the way it looks and it was pretty compact too!

Thrift Store Friday! (Bought that Green plastic chair I saw last Saturday!)

Here we are! It's Friday! I've been cooped up at work all day I needed to get out and so I took my valuable lunch hour and made it to 4 local thrift stores today! There wasn't very much notable stuff but I did see a couple gems including a mysterious table and 2 chairs that looked similar to the Broyhill Brasilia chair and table Mr. Modtomic saw a few days ago over here. I know they probably aren't but They looked similar. Anyways, Here are the Goods!

We will start with the aforementioned table and chairs that I spotted at a local thrift store. It looks pretty sweet and was pretty cheap too! Only $35! The only downside was that it only had 2 chairs that went with it and I have no room for another table and chairs so I left it. I like my Chromcraft table and chair better anyway. I'm not sure who the maker is so If you know please inform me so that I too may be blessed with this knowledge too!

Milo Baughman for Thayer Coggin Lounge Chair

Ok so this post may ruin my thrift sale Friday for the week and I already had another personal item lined up for todays post, but I really just have to post this for my personal item Thursday. So yesterday, I walked into the Salvation army during my lunch break because it was fairly close to where I was getting lunch and sitting over near the furniture area was this yellowish high backed chair that screamed mid-century to me. It looked fabulous! I kept looking around to see if there was anything else in the store but there wasn't so I went to go sit in the chair and when I did I leaned back slightly and the chair moved and a footrest poped out from out of nowhere! It was at that moment that I knew I needed to have this chair. I had seen earlier that the price on the chair was $19.99 and I feared the worst because I believed that I only had $10 on me again. I cracked open my wallet and there was a $20 bill gleaming at me saying spend me Brian! so I picked that chair up and walked over to the register and bought it! Hit the break for the rest of the story and more pictures of this amazing chair!

Café Press - Franciscan

Today I decided to breathe some life into the old Franciscan pattern originally made by Gladding McBean and Company. They have the famous Star-burst pattern that many people liked and today I have brought it back to its former glory on a few modern day items over in my Café Press shop over here. I made my own version of the Franciscan pattern which is very similar to the original pattern.  I have also lowered some of the prices on my previous items and I will continue to finish lowering some prices until I have them finished tomorrow. Here are some links to the Items I have made. Feel free to browse through my other designs as well as purchase any if you would like to, but here are some of my favorites!

Blog of the day

Here we have a blog entitled: "Analog Dialog." I really like this blog. I think it is interesting. It is comprised of mostly pictures but It's what is in those pictures that is really cool. This blog has pictures of vintage cars from the 70s' and furniture from the 70s' and even entire rooms from the 70s'. This is like looking through a brilliant time capsule! I love looking at all the pictures and the Eames Chairs and the Knoll chairs and all the furniture and coffee tables and the beds and the lighting and the fireplaces in all the pictures. I love the layouts of all the different houses that they post on this blog. I love this blog and I think it is truly fantastic! I highly recommend bookmarking this blog because it is good fun to look at.

Monday Update!

So I've been contemplating the layout of my blog in regards to the posts and I have decided that I will follow a guideline for each day of the week. I will implement this so that I will be able to deliver 1 post a day every day to you guys. This is a pretty big step for me considering that I am a pretty lazy guy. I would like to change that and it starts with this blog! I will strive to get my posts out every day because I want to provide you all with wonderful posts regarding the Mid-Century Modern/ Atomic Era goodness. Anyways, here is what I plan to accomplish for every day of the week:

  • Monday
    • News update
    • This is where I will give weekend news or status updates or whether or not I intend on selling something. If I don't post It here, it's not for sale.
  • Tuesday
    • Modernism around the Interwebs
    • This is where I will post about different blogs or websites that I like based on their Modern/Atomic Styling)
    • I also may post craigslist ads or ebay listings of local or distant items of interest.

Welcome to Steve's Antiques (Lot's of Stuff, Not too much Modern)

A couple weeks ago I stopped at a little place called Steve's Antiques with my girlfriend. You can find them here. I had never noticed this little place before and I thought it wasn't that big until my girlfriend and I were told there were 3 floors of stuff behind the blue door. I couldn't believe he said 3 floors! I thought it was just a dinky hole in the wall place and we were overwhelmed when we walked in there. This place is literally wall to wall Stuff! There is everything in this place and we couldn't take it all in at once. Most of the stuff in here was really expensive... so I haven't bought anything in there yet but I'm still looking for that gem! I've been in there 3 times and the last time was when I actually remembered to bring my camera. I still have not seen everything in the place. There is stuff stacked left and right! There are narrow passageways. And it's really dark in some spots due to lack of light so bring your flashlight! Make sure you hit the jump to see more pictures!

Local Thrift Store Finds

I stopped at some local Thrift stores yesterday to see what they had in stock. I bought some really cool items and I got some good deals but there were some things that I just decided to pass on due to lack of room and budget. There are about 6 thrift stores in my local area and This is all the really noteworthy stuff that I could find. Hit the jump for more pictures!

I saw this cool Mid Century Table with drawers at a local consignment shop for $150 but that was a bit too much for my liking so I passed. I really did like it and I think it would make a magnificent Flat panel TV Stand but the price was just too out of my reach. It was in excellent condition too!

St. Clair Antique Mall (Neato Stuff!)

So the other day my girlfriend and I ventured over to another Antique mall over in Fairview Hieghts, Illinois called St. Clair Antique Mall. You can find it Here. Anyways, we had ventured to this place before but we only got through half of it because it closed at 5pm. This is a pretty cool place and we did buy 3 things! There were also some really interesting items that I liked but I decided to pass on them this time. Curse you lack of higher paying job! I Did bring my camera to take pictures of the wonderful things but the battery died halfway through and I had to resort to using my camera phone to take pictures. Next time I go back I will definitely bring more batteries.Sorry for the slightly not-so-great pictures in here. Hit the jump for the rest of the Pictures!

The South County Antique Mall is Huge!

So on Monday I went to the South County Antique Mall in Sappington, MO with my girlfriend. Their website is here. This is also the place that I bought that 1967 Black Chromcraft Chair that I posted the other day. Anyways this place was HUGE! Ive been in here before but that was before I got hooked on all the Mid-century/Atomic goodness. I remembered a few things they had in there from the last time but I was still really excited to go and see what they had in there! They had tons of stuff in there and we were probably walking around all the booths for at least 2 hours. My legs were hurting by the time we left but it was great! I wanted to buy so much stuff but I'm not exactly made of money. Ill save up and next time my dad and I go there I will probably get a few more things and definitely take more pictures! I can't wait! I think this was the biggest antique mall I've ever been in. Make sure to check out all the pictures after the jump!

This green chair looked fantastic sitting there! It wasn't the most comfortable chair thought and that fiberglass chair was pretty cool too and I liked that rug under it! There were also so orange GoGo boots in there last time I went that I remember.

New Chromcraft Chair

I bought this Chromcraft chair on monday at the South County Antique Mall in Sappington, MO. There website is here. I went there and the place was huge! I've been there before but I didn't see this chair before and I didn't have my camera. I will post More pictures of the South County Antique Mall tomorrow. Anyways, this Chair was in one of the booths in the very back. I don't remember what booth it was but as soon as I saw that chair and noticed it was $18 I knew I had to have it! I needed an extra Chromcraft chair for my older Chromcraft Dinette set and Even though this one doesn't match I don't really care. The chair Currently resides at my drafting table for now. I also included some comparison pictures of the different Chromcraft chairs. Check out all of the pictures after the Jump!

The Future Antiques (TFA)

So I found this awesome little Vintage store thanks to Mr. Modtomic. The store is called TFA (The Future Antiques). Here is a link to their website. My girlfriend and I decided to go see this place yesterday and we were definitely in for a surprise! This Place was awesome! It was a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be and I loved everything they had in there! This place is definitely my favorite Vintage/retro store Ive been in so far! Everything was priced very fairly and I wanted to buy It all! Sadly I didn't get anything this time around but definitely next time! Anyways here are some of my favorite things I took pictures of:

I loved this Orange couch and the owner said that it slides out from under the corner table and can be turned into  2 single beds! how awesome is that?

Rugtastic

Here is another interesting Item that I bought about 10 months ago... Its an odd rug that has a 70's feel to it and it really caught my eye so I jumped on it. I bought it at a church yard sale near my house for only $3. Its just so wild looking and I thought it was cool so I bought it. I think it really goes along with my Fuzzy Mushroom footstool from earlier. Its cool and Interesting and wild so Thats why I bought it. It measures about 2.5' in diameter. I have no Idea who made it or where it originally came from.

DSCN1751

Fuzzy Mushroom Footstool

I bought this 70's Fuzzy Mushroom Footstool at a rummage sale at my local community college about 10 months ago. I had seen it in there a few days before the sale was supposed to start because I work at the college and I was allowed to browse around early in the week before the Rummage Sale. I saw this footstool and I knew I needed to have it. I woke up early that morning so I could get in line before everyone else. I was about 10th in line and as soon as that door open I made a beeline for that footstool. Needless to say I got it and I love it! Its Really cool and I use it a lot in my living room. I only paid $1 for it and I think it was a fantastic deal. It measures about 2' high and 1.5' wide. Its pretty unique too and Ive only seen one other one in orange before.

How I Got Started

So I must say this blog has been inspired by Mr.Modtomic. He has deeply inspired me in the field of Atomic Era/ Mid century Modern Era. I've always admired the styling of the 50s 60s and 70s but it wasn't until recently that I realized I had a substantial weakness for the beauty that came out of those eras. It all started a long time ago when I was at boarding school. Somebody had thrown away what appears to be a Saarinen Style Office chair but to this day I haven't been able to successfully identify It but I'm pretty sure its just a vintage knockoff. I love that chair though and I use it every day as my computer desk chair. Here is that wonderful desk chair!
